  • Diabetes Australia Position Statement on Self blood glucose monitoring by adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
  • Urgent Medical Device Recall:  NovoPen Echo – the insulin cartridge holder used in a small number of NovoPen Echo batches may crack or break if exposed to certain chemicals, for example certain cleaning agents.Using a device with a cracked/broken cartridge holder can result in the device delivering a smaller dose of insulin than expected leading to high blood glucose levels. When cleaning the pen as described in the User Guide, there is no reason to believe that cracking of the cartridge holder will occur. All other batches include cartridge holders of a type where the issue with cracked and broken cartridge holders was not seen. The following batches have been affected:

  • Medtronic, in consultation with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is initiating a Recall for Product Correction (TGA Reference number RC-2017-RN-00167-1) for its MiniMed 640G insulin pumps with software version 2.6. Please note that physical product is not being recalled from the market.

  • World Diabetes Day is held on November 14th each year.

The blue circle is the global symbol for diabetes awareness. It signifies the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes epidemic.  The theme of World Diabetes Day (WDD) 2016 was ‘Eyes on diabetes’. The key messages that guided the campaign were: Screening for type 2 diabetes is important to modify its course and reduce risk of complications.Screening for diabetes complications is an essential part of managing all types of diabetes.  Supporting materials are available on the IDF website.

  • Recall: GlucaGen HypoKit  A recall notice has been issued for the GlucaGen Hypokit product.It has been identified that a small number of GlucaGen HypoKits from four batches have needles which may become detached from the pre-filled syringes.   The affected batch numbers are: FS6X465       FS6X536      FS6X715       FS6X891

The expiry date for all affected batches is 31 August 2017.
