Follow the Rainbow

Follow the Rainbow to coordinate, move and map injection site rotation for people with diabetes who rely on other people to do their insulin injections. A system of site rotation, it stops scar tissue developing under the skin (called lipo or lipohypertrophy) by preventing injections being given in the same injection sites.
Anybody who needs insulin injections to manage their diabetes have the potential to develop lipo but the following groups carry a higher risk.
This includes:
- young children
- older people or
People with diabetes and a/an:
- cognitive disability
- intellectual disability
- physical disability
- psychosocial disability.
The Follow the Rainbow chart will:
- coordinate injection site rotation by a team of people
- provides visual reference to identify the position of the next injection site
- documents where each insulin injection has been injected
- provides a fun way to involve the person with diabetes in site rotation and identification.
Lipo is a significant issue for people with diabetes who inject insulin over a long period of time. It can cause lumps and bumps under the skin to impact:
- body image, confidence wearing swim wear and more fitted clothing
- consistency of insulin absorption and action
