D4D Course – Glucose Monitoring
Learn how to use the glucose meter…

Hope you’re enjoying Module 2: Blood Glucose Monitoring in the Diabetes 4 Disability training course. This activity teaches you how to use a finger-pricker and blood glucose meter. If you learn to use a meter the right way, you increase the accuracy of the readings recorded by the meter. You are also less likely to get a needle-stick injury from the finger-pricker!
How do I know which meter I will be learning to use?
It depends on the meters you have available to you:
- Did your organisation hire an EdHealth Practice Pack? Use the meters in the pack.
- Can you use your client’s meter to practice? This is an option if you don’t have an EdHealth Practice Pack. Ask the client if you can use their meter to learn and practice how to use it in the training.
- Does your organisation have a meter? Use this meter.
What do I need to do?
There are lots of different meters available in Australia. The finger-prickers available to prick the finger to get a drop of blood vary. Below are the names of a number of the meters available in Australia. Once you know which meter you’re going to use, look for the name below and you’re ready to go!
