Who’s your Credentialled Diabetes Educator? Campaign

Diabetes can be challenging for people to live with because the major responsibility for managing this condition lies with the person with diabetes.

To help you to do this, people with diabetes can see a Credentialled Diabetes Educator, or CDE as they are also called. These health professionals specialise in diabetes care and because each person is an individual, one size doesn’t fit all and you need to get to know your version of diabetes and how this is best managed.

Every person with diabetes deserves to have a Credentialled Diabetes Educator in their health team. Hence the question, ‘Who’s your Credentialled Diabetes Educator?‘

CDEs help people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes to understand the way their body acts when it has diabetes. Understanding how and why diabetes has developed provides a foundation to then work with your CDE to look at, and if required, make changes to your diet, increase your activity, manage your stress and medication for a healthier life with diabetes.

The burden of living with diabetes falls most heavily on the person with diabetes. CDEs understand this and provide support and strategies to help you to manage the day-to-day stress from having diabetes. It’s hard work managing what you eat, how you will keep your body active and stress under wraps, as well as staying on top of the demands of taking medication. Then you have your normal life on top of all of that!
