EdHealth recommends those who have an EdHealth Diabetes Management Plan (DMP) created for a NDIS participant, add in the preparation of a DMP Quiz. Many support workers have English as their second language, so it makes sense to evaluate if they have fully understood the written information in the DMP.

A ten to thirteen question quiz is prepared for support workers to complete after they have read through and revised the content in the DMP.

The aim of this strategy is to check their understanding and provide a strategy to ensure they read and understand the content covered in the quiz about the DMP. This quality and safety strategy will give NDIS participants, their family and disability managers the confidence the DMP has been written in an appropriate way for the support workers to work with and understand.

EdHealth provides a copy of the Quiz and an Answer Guide. It is the responsibility of the disability organisation to provide the support workers with a copy of the quiz when they have read through the DMP and feel ready to sit the Quiz. The responsible manager will use the Answer Guide to check if the answers are correct.

A pass mark of 95% is set, due to the importance of the information covered in the test, however, they can continue to repeat the quiz until they achieve the pass mark. The quiz provides a trigger for the support workers to go back and revise and re-do the quiz, as a further quality and safety strategy.

Does the quiz ever change?

We recommend the quiz is reviewed each year, and updated as required. It is a good policy to have the support workers re-do the Quiz each year. This will keep the quiz up to date and also keep the quiz relevant to the current DMP so the support workers are kept on their toes when they come to do the quiz the following year.

Can you use the quiz for other purposes?

Yes you can. If there is a concern about an aspect of a support worker’s knowledge of the diabetes care required for the client, the quiz can help to evaluate their knowledge. Arrange for the person to do the quiz again. It is recommended they do the quiz under observation to ensure there is no collaboration with other support workers. Review the answers to consider this information as a part of their review.
